Diaries of Benjamin Franklin Walker of Bristol County, Massachusetts from 1870 - 1873 and 1875 - 1904. Includes Walker's income from all sources, including farm and shop labor, household work, as well as his expenses, such as food, clothing, musical instruments, concert tickets, and home furnishings. There are also daily entries, which include information about the weather, personal contact with a wide range of aquaintances, work done on the property, social events attended, music lessons both taken and taught, his wife, Lavira Williams, and his sons, Ernest and Clinton Walker. Collection also includes a diary by his son, Ernest Walker, for 1894 and a diary by his other son, Clinton Walker, for 1896.

This journal contains John P. Louderback's first-hand account of the First Battle of Manassas (or Bull Run) during the American Civil War. John Louderback served in the 10th Virginia Infantry, most likely Company I (Page Volunteers), although his company could not be verified. The 10th Virginia Infantry was part of the 4th Brigade of the Armies of the Shenandoah. This brigade participated towards the end of the First battle of Manassas (or Bull Run). The account is only five pages while the rest of the journal consists of birth and death dates for the Louderback and Holtz families of Page County, Virginia. Also included in the journal are local newspaper articles from Page County and Rockingham County, Virginia.

Journal, 1856-1857, of John Rufus Smith, merchant, of Mill Creek, Berkeley County, Va. [W. Va.] which also includes a list, 1862, of losses sustained to farmlands and timber due to damage by the Confederate Army; and the journal, 1865-1878, of Daniel Wright which contains accounts with the Confederate States and a record of wheat threshed by the Confederate Army.

Collection contains account journals, some papers and other items of James M. Nicolson, a general merchant in Gloucester County, Virginia (1802-1869), an account book kept by Nicolson and Capt. John L. Hibble as Assistant Quarter Masters of the 26th Virginia Regiment, 1861-1864 (discusses slaves labors); a letter book of H. Yeatman & Co., merchants of Gloucester Court House, 1869-1870, which also contains some of Nicolson's correspondence; and ledger accounts, 1892-1899, for farming at 'Severn Hall', Gloucester County, Va. Includes a list of slaves hired out on 23 Dec. 1802.

Include memorandum books, account books (daybooks, ledgers, and journals) of several stores: Buckingham Female Collegiate Institute Store, Gravel Hill, Va.; West & Agee (John S. West and William C. Agee), Buckingham Court House, Va.; J. E. West and J. E. West (John Edmund West) & Bros., Dillwyn, Va. The collection includes account books of the Gravel Hill Post Office (John S. West and Mattie J. West).
