Collections

The bulk consists of reel-to-reel tapes and cassettes created by the Public Relations Office (now Communications and Marketing) which recorded VMI events. Also includes Glee Club LPs (1950's-60's) and misc. other audio (e.g. Flapjack Blues played by Frank Pancake).

This collection consists of miscellaneous personal papers found in the Kilbourne family home in 2016, including:

• A file of correspondence and memoranda (1898-1937) dating from Charles E. Kilbourne's career in the United States Army, primarily letters of recommendation
• Photographs
• Scrapbooks
• Newspaper clippings
• Subject files related to Kilbourne's visit to the Philippines (1954-1955) and the Great Yamen Imperial Order of Dragon (1954-1963)

Interview with BG William T. Clement by war correspondence Larry Tighe, produced for radio news broadcast distribution. The transmission originated from a ship off the coast of Japan, and concerns the activities of the 6th Marine Division, 4th Marines, during the early days of the occupation of Japan following the surrender.

This collection consists of J. H. Binford Peay III's oral history interview transcript. This interview was conducted in August 2009 by Dr. Lewis S. Sorley III for the United States Army Military History Institute Senior Officers Oral History Program.

The Lee S. Gerow papers (40 items) consist of papers from the military career of Gerow, including:

• Certificates of promotion
• Photographs
• An autobiography (14 page typescript, 1979)
• Correspondence

This collection consists of the personal papers of Brigadier General William Burr Cochran, VMI Class of 1888, including:

• Correspondence
• Photographs
• An unpublished biographical essay titled "Reminiscences of Camp Life During the World War"
• Other items, such as instructions for "final German Figures," a formal VMI dance

The collection consists of:

• A manuscript titled "Rebellion Record of Brevet Major General W. H. Emory" (1872; 50 pages)
• Two volume report of Union Forces during the 1864 Red River Campaign, including details about the 13th, 16th, 17th, and 19th Army Corps
• One volume report of Union Forces during the 1864 Shenandoah Valley Campaign, including details about the 19th Army Corps

The Withers A. Burress papers consist of papers that document Burress' United States Army career for the period from 1942 to 1954. Included are photos, a subject file on the 100th Infantry Division, scrapbooks, correspondence, orders, and memos. Other items include retirement correspondence (dated 1957-1971).
