Abstract Or Scope

Local historians and genealogies from West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle (Jefferson, Berkeley, Morgan counties), compiled by researcher Katy Hunter. Most of the papers consist of Hunter's notes made from sources in courthouses, libraries and historical societies. Also included is correspondence between Hunter and clients seeking historical information. The correspondence and notes are bound into fifty-eight notebooks, for which there is an index in the inventory folder. In addition to the notebooks, there is one folder of naturalization records.

Abstract Or Scope
Photocopies of family bible records of Morgan County, West Virginia. Records contain dates of births, marriages, and deaths. Family names include Allemong, Ambrose, Bohrer, Breakall, Brown, Buck, Caldwell, Catlett, Combs, Cross, Custer, Dawson, Duckwall, Eppinger, Fearnow, Fredman, Fritzman, Grove, Harmon, Herriott, Hofe, Hook, Hovermale, Hunter, Huth, Lawyer, Lutman, Martin, McKee, Michael, Miller, Munson, Newbraugh, Rankin, Ruppenthal, Shade, Shipley, Shockey, Stotler, Swaim, Tyson, Waugh, Widmyer, and Wisner. These were copied from records of the Morgan County Historical and Genealogical Society. The dates of records copied range from 1816-1980. The records were compiled in 1985 by Kathern Allemong and Jessie Hunter for a Daughters of the American Revolution project. In 2015, the records were re-organized for ease of research by Nancy Edwards and Nancy Largent. The collection was originally organized in a three-ring binder; it has been re-arranged into folders with each item numbered to retain original order.
