The Berlin B. Chapman Papers consists of postcards, photographs, books, and manuscript materials documenting Chapman's personal life and professional career. The bulk of the collection pertains to materials related to education, including Chapman's own academic experiences as well as the history of educational institutions and the teaching profession in Marion County and central West Virginia.

Anderson, Maggie
Papers of Maggie Anderson (born September 23, 1948, in New York City), an Appalachian poet and professor. She has been affiliated with organizations such as Kent State University (KSU) and its Wick Poetry Program, the Northeast Ohio Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program (NEOMFA), and others. Collection includes mainly professional papers pertaining to her writing and teaching careers. Formats include manuscripts, correspondence, printed material, photographs, and others. Subjects include awards, professional activities (readings, workshops, etc.), teaching materials, editorial projects, and other material. Editorial projects include Learning By Heart: Contemporary American Poetry about School, A Space Filled with Moving, Years that Answer, and other publications. Maxwell family
Papers of Hu Maxwell (1860-1927), historian, editor, and author of several county histories of West Virginia, along with papers and records of other family members. There are manuscripts of fiction, verse, and local history written by Maxwell, as well as a number of his manuscripts and publications dealing with forestry which were prepared while he was a member of the Forest Service of the United States Department of Agriculture. Maxwell kept a diary during the years 1901-1919 while residing in Morgantown, Chicago, Illinois, and Washington, D.C., which is extensive for the period of World War I and which contains notes on the diary of Rufus Maxwell (1855-1907). Miller, Paul A., 1917-2015
Professional papers, correspondence, books, serials, and photographs documenting the professional career of Paul A. Miller, who served as president of West Virginia University, 1962-66. The material also deals with Miller's work as a graduate student, professor, and provost at Michigan State University, 1946-61; his tenure as assistant secretary for education in the Department of Health, Education & Welfare; and his term as president of Rochester Institute of Technology, 1969-79. Correspondents include: Marshall Buckalew, Francena L. Miller, Thomas E. Millsop, Leonard Riggleman, D. Banks Wilburn. See "Scope and Contents" note for an addendum to this collection.

Preston County, Aurora School History, 1790/1994 0 Linear Feet Summary: 7 pages

Preston County. Aurora School
A history of the schools of Aurora, Preston Co. from their founding by early settlers of German descent to the present efforts to reconstruct the recently fire destroyed building. Mentioned are changes in location, types of schools, school principals, funding and various costs such as those for construction. Some early funding, especially to aid poor children, was raised locally by money accumulated in a literary fund. In the nineteenth century other funds were acquired from the Peabody Educational Fund, a national fund created by George Peabody to assist needy public schools. Early settlers mentioned in the establishment of schools are John Stough, Christian Whitehair, Jacob Ridenour, Abraham Wotring and Peter Heckart. Those influential in education after the pioneer era are Franklin V. N. Painter, C. M. Malcom, the Stemple family, Frank J. Pyles, Glenn Wright and Kenneth Parsons.
