Commemorative articles about Tuskegee Institute and its founder, the educator, Booker T. Washington. Also copies of a few articles by this renowned turn of the century leader of Afro-Americans and a copy of his autobiography, Up From Slavery. Also includes photographs of Washington and his family and facsimiles of his passport application and death certificate. This material reflects Washington's philosophy of economic self help for African-Americans.

Includes records of the Morgantown Presbyterian and Protestant Episcopal Church, genealogical information on the Rogers and Laidleys, a pioneer school book of Anne McKinnon, and a personal letter book of L. Wilcox of Kanawha Salines. Also includes three receipts for slaves purchased in Richmond, Virginia by Major W.A. Bradford(e).

Collection includes typescripts drafts of unpublished works, correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, and printer's picture plates. Unpublished typescript drafts are titled George Rodgers Clark Floyd of Logan County, West Virginia, and Huckleberry Ranger Lieutenant John Blue, Confederate. Also includes correspondence from Robert L. Floyd to Dr. Ambler regarding the Floyd family (1953-1957), and a manuscript titled The Life of Henry Floyd by Robert L. Floyd. The 58 printer's picture plates were used in A History of Education in West Virginia by Charles H. Ambler.

Fleming family

Business and personal papers, pamphlets, clippings, and photographs of Benjamin Fleming (1806-1891), and his son Thurston Worth (b.1846), relating to various business enterprises carried on by the family in Fairmont. These included a large trade in manufacturing, importing and selling hats and furs, general merchandising, fertilizer and hardwood sales.
