Manuscript record, probably of English origin, of services carried out, individuals for whom services were performed, and payments received. Services rendered include hoeing, mowing, sowing flax, cultivating corn, planting, plowing, shearing sheep, making mortar and building stone walls, cutting and hauling wood, hauling bricks and iron ore, framing, working on wells and dams, tending coal pits, and working on roads. A hymn by Dr. Watts appears on one of the pages. Place names mentioned are Brintwood, Chester, and Exeter.

Four daybooks, which cover 1845, September 1851-August 1852, January 1856-March 1858, and September 1865-December 1866, list by date and customer the purchase of a wide variety of items including foodstuffs, fabric, books, clothing and shoes, and sundry home goods.

The collection consists of bound volumes, journals, daybooks, and notebooks belonging to John Scott, Richard Marshall Scott,Sr., Richard Marshall Scott,Jr., James L. Gunnell, and Dr. Francis M. Gunnell, and a photograph album belonging to Sarah Louise Rittenhouse. Other materials include printed articles about the Bush Hill plantation,a copy of a book, "The Battles of Aldie, Middleburg and Upperville," and genealogical charts, tables and notes.

Series III. Walter Reed consists of materials that document the life of Walter Reed as well as the work and legacy of the U.S. Army Yellow Fever Commission. Items in the series date from 1806 to around 1955 with the bulk of the items dating from 1874 to 1936. The series is particularly rich in materials that document the professional and personal life of Walter Reed from 1874 to his death in 1902. These materials include, but are not limited to the following:

Series IV. Philip Showalter Hench 21 boxes Box 34-55

Series IV. Philip Showalter Hench primarily consists of materials that Hench created or collected while researching the U.S. Army Yellow Fever Commission. Items in this series date from around 1850 to around 1865 with the bulk of the items dating from 1937 to 1960. Researchers who are studying the yellow fever experiments will be particularly interested in the materials (e.g. interviews, autobiographies) that document first-hand accounts of the events surrounding the experiments. Other researchers may be interested in items that document Hench's role in shaping public memory of the commission and its experiments. The materials in this series include, but are not limited to the following:

Series XII. Houston Academy of Medicine/Texas Medical Center additions consists of materials that Philip Showalter Hench created or collected while researching the yellow fever experiments. Items in this series date from around 1901 to around 1966. These materials were originally a part of the Philip S. Hench papers in the John P. McGovern Historical Collections and Research Center at the Texas Medical Center Library, but they were transferred to the University of Virginia in 1991. These items include, but are not limited to the following:

Ankers, Mary Alice, 1915-1994 Boggs, Olive Louise arrangement

Daybook for Grand Oaks (formerly Strange Acres) school and camp, probably in Virginia. No location is given in the daybook but the director, Mary Alice Ankers is with great likelihood Mary Alice Ankers (1915-1994) who was born and spent most of her life in Virginia. The daybook was kept by Ankers and assistant director Olive Louise Boggs.Students were aged 8-12 and came for the most part from Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.The daybook records school and camp fees, personal effects of students, medical information, visits, as well as entries on behavioral issues.
