The collection consists of various papers related to Earl L. Valentine, Sr., an alumnus of Washington and Lee University's law school and later a local lawyer. The papers include various correspondences, genealogical material, assorted photographs, miscellaneous programs and announcements, and material concerning Valentine's wife, Lucille Wilson.

Papers, 1868-1942, of the King and Orndorff families of Van Buren Furnace, Shenandoah County, Va. The collection includes papers, 1891-1942, of Early Orndorff, documents in German of a maternal ancestor, Emily Wilde, who came to America in 1877 and letters, 1882-1890, written to Frank King and his wife from G. H. Rochling and Ferd Lipfert, Annaberg, Germany.

The collection is composed of material, chiefly 1862-1868, relating to Eastern Lunatic Asylum (now Eastern State Hospital), Williamsburg, Va. Includes correspondence, a list of female patients and "coloured" female patients, patient reports, and requisition orders of Dr. Peter Wager, director of the hospital during the Union occupation of Williamsburg. There are also replies, 1956-1957, to inquiries for information about Dr. John de Sequeyera [or Sequeyra], a physician at the hospital from 1773 to 1793, and the hospital during the Civil War.

This collection consists of three letters written by E. M. Walden from various Confederate States of America camps (near Wilmington, NC; Kinston, NC; and Richmond, VA) to his sister. He provides her with updates on CSA military activities and mentions General Sherman's raid in Georgia. The letters are dated June 13, 1863, Dec. 3, 1864, and Jan. 20, 1865.

The collection consists of correspondence, clippings, video and other media, and printed matter relating to E. Cabell Brand's interest in the life of Civil Rights activist Jonathan M. Daniels. This collection also includes a file on the Cabell Breckinridge Brass Band at VMI, certificates of recognition, and other documents.

These autographed and signed letters are from Mrs. Wilson to Washington and Lee President Francis P. Gaines and his wife, Sadie duVergne Gaines. Included is an invitation and seating arrangement for a luncheon given by Mrs. Wilson for First Lady Jackie Kennedy. The letters show the close friendship between Mrs. Wilson and the Gaines family. The collection also includes a photograph of Edith Wilson.

Papers, 1790-1871, of the Edmonds family. Includes ledger, 1790- 1794, of John Edmonds, Sr. kept near Quantico and Dumfries, Prince William County, Va.; commission, 1809 February 23, of Elias Edmonds signed by Thomas Jefferson; letter, 1844 April 22, of John F. Edmonds, Macon County, Mo. to his father Elias Edmonds, Upperville, Va.; and diary, 1870-1871, of Joseph Addison Edmonds of Lexington, Mo. kept on a trip to Texas.

This collection contains letters and receipts of Colonel James Kerr Edmondson, a Lexington, Virginia lawyer, judge and mayor, and of his wife, Emily Jane Taylor Edmondson. Also included are Edmondson's letters to his wife during the Civil War, while he was an officer in the Stonewall Brigade. Their are some items from their relations, the Monroes and Penicks of Lexington.

This collection consists of one letter from Edmund Berkeley to his mother Mary Lawson Berkeley (Williams). Berkeley has been informed of his sister's death and offers consolation to his mother. He also gives VMI news and complains about the food (early reference to "growley" a VMI slang word used for mess hall food).
