This collection includes sixteen prints collected by Galen W. Ewing to serve as accompanying illustrations to his article "Early Teaching of Science at the College of William and Mary in Virginia," Journal of Chemical Education, 15, No. 1 (Jan 1938); three notebooks filled with extensive manuscript notes and correspondence; thirteen engraving plates of various sizes used in printing the article. Professional and personal papers, 1745-1892, of the Galt family of Williamsburg, Virginia. Papers primarily concern the Galt family's work at the Eastern State Hospital, including apothecary shop daybooks, account books, medical daybooks, clinical notebooks, weather diaries, commonplace books, reports, medical notes, lecture notes, correspondence, and other. The personal papers consist of diaries, letters, scrapbooks, school notes, financial papers, memoirs, and other material.

The collection covers the dates 1750-1982 and consists chiefly of the personal and business correspondence, financial and legal documents, literary documents, and family history and genealogy notes of the Galt family. The collection also contains clippings, photographs, and personal mementos such as artifacts.

Papers of Alexander Galt, Jr. and his family. Mostly correspondence but also includes contracts, financial records, diaries, notebooks, sculptures and ephemera. Most items written to, or by, Alexander Galt, Jr. when he was living in Florence, Italy. Alexander Galt's sketchbook which includes photograph of Galt's sketch of General Stonewall Jackson.

Correspondence of the Garrett family of Williamsburg, Va., concerning family and social news, politics, and the Civil War. Earlier letters deal mainly with business and political news, as several Garrett family members, including Richard R. Garrett, Alexander C. Garrett, and Dr. Robert M. Garrett, were involved in the politics of 19th century Virginia. Correspondence of Dr. Robert M. Garrett and his brothers Alexander C. Garrett and B. F. Garrett concerning the sale of "Yardley," Northampton County, Va. There are letters written to Dr. Robert M. Garrett's daughter, Lottie Garrett, by David E. Cronin concerning his memoir of the Vest Mansion and the Civil War occupation of Williamsburg and portraits owned by Lottie Garrett.

An artificial collection of genealogical materials; ca. 1880 to 1993; many of which were probably collected by Dr. Earl Gregg Swem in connection with the publication of genealogical information in the "William and Mary Quarterly, 2nd Series". Includes correspondence, clippings, coats-of-arms, charts, and family histories. Most newspaper clippings are from "The Standard" in Richmond, Virginia from the early 1880's.

The George A. Baxter Family papers begin in 1797 and trace the history of three generations of the Baxter family in Virginia. The collection contains both correspondence and newspaper articles saved by the family.

This collection includes a small amount of correspondence dated 1904-1908. The primary subject matter of the correspondence refers to fundraising efforts Chamberlain was a part of that related to Washington and Lee University. He helped fundraise to build a chapter house for his fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi, a new library (Carnegie), and the Lee Memorial Association. A couple of letters refer to the Jamestown Exposition (1907). Chamberlain remarks about his political campaign in a letter dated June 5, 1906.

The papers of the Holmes family. Chiefly letters, 1842-1887, received by George Frederick Holmes, educator, concerning the College of William and Mary, the University of Mississippi, and the University of Virginia. Correspondents include William Campbell Preston, Andrew Steele Fulton, Robert Saunders and Charles Minnigerode. The collection also includes papers of the Floyd and Preston families; an album kept by Eliza Lavalette Floyd Holmes consisting of plant leaves, newspapers and memorials to her son and a drawing by Thomas C. Milington of the grave-site of John Floyd Holmes; and papers, concerning the estate of George Frederick Holmes.

The George M. Edgar letters collection consists of two letters. The first letter (dated May 17, 1864) is from C. A. De Russy to Edgar. The letter commends Edgar for the assistance rendered by his battalion at the Battle of New Market on May 15, 1864.
