The Jordan Family papers (13 items) consist of personal papers related to the Jordan family, including:

Papers of Joseph E. Johnston, C.S.A. General during the American Civil War, including correspondence which reflect his long military career and interest in his nephews, John Warfield Johnston and John Preston Johnston.

The collection consists mainly of photocopies of American Civil War letters written to and from Joseph Shaner and his family. It also includes a portion of Shaner's 1862 diary, his service records, one photograph, obituaries, history, reminiscences, and genealogies (1754-1978) pertaining to the Shaner family and other Rockbridge County families.

This collection (seven items) consists of:

• A manuscript notebook compiled by Joseph H. Carpenter during his cadetship (1852-1856). The notebook contains poetry, class notes, autographs of classmates, and a detailed account of a Corps trip to Petersburg and Richmond, Virginia in October 1855.
• Two letters written by Carpenter to his father in 1862, including a letter dated June 16, 1862 that describes fighting near Port Republic, Virginia
• Letter of recommendation written on Carpenter's behalf by Brigadier General John Echols and submitted to Confederate President Jefferson Davis
• Two commission documents (1861)
• One letter (dated July 17, 1864) where Carpenter's Battery member Sergeant Benjamin Karnes describes circumstances surrounding the wounding of a fellow soldier. This letter was found among Carpenter's own papers.

The Joseph H. Chenoweth papers consist of letters (dated 1855 to 1861) written by Chenoweth to his parents Lemuel Chenoweth and Nancy A. Hart. Letters dating from his cadetship cover topics such as exams, trips, and demerits, and provide a good portrait of pre-Civil War cadet life.

This collection contains letters written by Julia Miller Junkin Fishburn while she lived in Lexington, Va. in her father's house. Her father, George Junkin, was President of Washington College (now Washington and Lee University) at the time. The letters were written to Fishburn's friend, Lizzie Webster who lived in Maryland. Subjects of the letters include Margaret Junkin Preston (sister), General Stonewall Jackson (brother-in-law), her upcoming marriage to Junius M. Fishburn, a Latin professor at Washington College, and the deaths of her husband and her mother. She describes the days leading up to her mother's passing. With both deaths, she expresses her grief but also her faith in God. A fifth letter, dated approximately 30 years later, gives advice to her friend on publishing a book of poetry and was written from New Jersey.

Contains 2 bound letterbooks. One volume has letters from J. Willcox Brown to Ellen Turner Macfarland, and the other volume contains her letters to him.There is also a microfilm reel of the correspondence.

Papers, 1814-1907, of the Lambert and Sheetz families of Augusta and Shenandoah counties. Include papers of Daniel H. Lambert, Staunton, Va. including his orders as a conscript in the Confederate Army in 1864 and his Oath of Allegiance to the United States in July 1865. Also include letters received by James and Joseph L. Sheetz, Woodstock, Shenandoah County and a single page extra newspaper issued by The Valley Virginian at the time of the riot, 3 November 1883,in Danville, Va.
