Papers, 1838-1882, of Gideon Christian, physician, of Norfolk, Va. The collection includes letters, accounts, lotteries, prescriptions, and forms for excusing draftees into the Confederate Army on medical grounds.

Consists largely of correspondence within the Glasgow/Paxton/Anderson family. Correspondence related to Rebekah A. Glasgow dates from 1846 to 1903, and correspondence within the Paxton family dates from 1897 to 1900. Also includes limited correspondence from Ellen Glasgow.

This collection consists of the papers of the Philo H. Goodwyn family of New Orleans, Louisiana. The bulk of this collection includes letters (dated 1840-1858) written by Philo H. Goodwyn to his fiance and later wife, Martha S. McGavock. Other items of correspondence include two letters from Almira McGavock to her daughter Martha, and one letter from McGavock R. Goodwyn (VMI Class of 1863) to his father, Philo.

The Gregory Family papers follow the family of Virginia Governor John Munford Gregory and wife Amanda Wallace through three generations with letters dating from the 1820's to the 1920's. Most items are letters between family members and grant insight into the daily activities and concerns of the Gregory family. The collection also includes correspondence between members of the Gregory family and other acquaintances, including members of the John Tyler family. While most letters are of a personal nature, some also touch on the issues of politics, education, religion, and agriculture. The collection is rich in genealogical information on the Gregory family and related Croshaw, Graves, West, and White families, as well as history of the family's war involvement. In addition to letters, the collection includes newspaper articles, family documents, and two diaries kept by John M. Gregory's daughter, Mattie Galbraith, in the late 1870's. There are also seven cased images of members of the Gregory Family, including Amanda Wallace Gregory, Amanda's sister (Elizabeth Christie Powell), William Wallace Gregory, and Mary "Mollie" Gregory.

This collection contains the family papers of members of the Grigsby and Galt Families. Mary Blair Grigsby married William W. Galt in 1881. The collection contains papers of various members of the Grigsby family, particulary Hugh Blair Grigsby who was a historian and Chancellor of The College of William and Mary and his son, Hugh Carrington Grigsby who lived his entire life at the family farm, Edgehill, in Charlotte County, Virginia.

Includes letters, 1858-1861, from John Augustine Washington, concerning his sale of "Mount Vernon" to Mount Vernon Ladies' Association; and Washington's Civil War service. The collection includes letters written by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Park Benjamin, and Conway Robinson.

Contains correspondence, 1854-1876, between Zebulon S. Farland and Ellen Douglas Gordon Farland; letters, 1906-1928, to Margaret (Farland) Hall, from her children, Emily Hall, Channing Hall, Joseph Hall, and John Lesslie Hall concerning education and World War I; and correspondence, 1887-1889, between Margaret (Farland) Hall and John Lesslie Hall, Sr. The collection also includes teaching notes, professional writings, and alumni correspondence with John Lesslie Hall, Sr. Prominent correspondents of Hall include Lyon G. Tyler, Thomas Nelson Page, Joseph Dupuy Eggleston and Basil Gildersleeve. Includes items removed from "The Writing of English"(PE1408 .M38 1929), a book owned by Emily M. Hall.

Letters from the archbishops of Canterbury and York, Anglican and Episcopal bishops and British prime minister, William Ewarts Gladstone chiefly concerning church business. Included among the correspondents are William E. Gladstone, John Henry Hobart, A. F. Winningham Ingram, Richard Channing Moore, Charles Manners Sutton, and Archibald Campbell Tait. Also included are etchings of Richard Channing Moore and of Beilby Porteus, Bishop of London; and the published volume "The House of Bishops" (The Churchman Company, 1907).
