This collection consists of requisitions and receipts (21 items) issued primarily by Captain William Miller, Assistant Quartermaster serving on the staff of Colonel Turner Ashby's 7th Virginia Cavalry Regiment, Confederate States Army. The documents date from the period December 1861 to March 1862 and many bear Ashby's signature. Included are receipts for corn, oats, and hay purchased from various farmers.

The bulk of this collection consists of documents relating to commissary stores, provisions, and supplies handled by Major P. M. Slaughter, Brigade Commissary, Mahone's Brigade. Other documents include correspondence that relates to the enlistment of Shelton Watts of Amherst County, Virginia in Thomas Kirkpatrick's Battery, and two legal broadsides from the District Court of Confederate States concerning sequestration of property of "alien enemies."
