Collections

This collection contains chiefly correspondence with Washington and Lee University and United Daughters of the Confederacy officials, resolutions, and reports relating to her participation in the controversy over W&L President Henry Louis Smith's proposed renovation and expansion of the Lee Chapel. Also includes correspondence and clippings relating to fund-raising for the Stratford Hall restoration. Correspondents include members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Washington and Lee officials, and Lee family members. It also includes a copy of Mary Randolph Custis Lee's will dated 1918.

This collection contains articles on John Elrod's inauguration as president of Washington and Lee University; articles on his death; a program from the Service of Witness to the Resurrection and in Celebration of the Life of John William Elrod in Lee Chapel on July 19, 2001; a program from In Memoriam John William Elrod in Lee Chapel on September 13, 2001; and a letter from his wife, Mimi Elrod, to the Leyburn Library staff dated August 10, 2001 thanking them for their words of sympathy, support and care during the death of her husband.

This collection contains a typed copy of a speech given in 1911, by George H. Denny, President of Washington and Lee University, as he departed for the University of Alabama as well as a photocopy of the speech in shorthand form, taken by Harry E. Meek, Washington and Lee University, Class of 1915.

This collection consists of correspondence between Ward and George Washington Custis Lee during his time as President of Washington and Lee University.

This collection contains material relating to the announcement, swearing-in, and inauguration of Dr. Katherine Anandi Rowe as the 28th president of William & Mary. Materials include digital video footage of the announcement in the Wren Building's Great Hall that was streamed on social media on February 20, 2018. Also included are web archived news articles relating to the announcement. Other materials includes\ the original, signed oath of office, taken by Rowe during her swearing-in ceremony in the Wren Building's Great Hall on July 2, 2019. It is signed by both Rowe and the Governor of Virginia. It also includes digital video footage of the swearing-in ceremony. Digital video footage of Charter Day 2019 and the inauguration of Rowe and the investiture of Chancellor Robert Gates are also contained in this collection.

This record group contains materials created by the University's Presidents while carrying out their job duties. The individual presidents will eventually receive their own collection guide and unique identifier. This collection is unprocessed.
