This collection is composed of material collected by and about College of William and Mary President Davis Y. Paschall including articles and speeches, biographical material, material related to his inauguration as College President, news clippings, and subject files. The collection documents Paschall's life from his days as a student at the College of William and Mary, his tenure as Superintendent of Public Instruction for the Commonwealth of Virginia (1957-1960) and President of the College of William and Mary (1960-1971), and his life after he resigned as president up through his death in 2001

Diaries, 1925 and 1928 of an unidentified Southern Railway employee, who worked in a Washington, D.C. office. Entries cover family, health, social life, weather, food, work, and trips in and around Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia. The writer was a member of the Brotherhood of American Railway Engineers. Some of the entries are rather detailed and give a good impression of the daily life of a mid-level office employee at the time.

Diary, 1945-1946, of an unknown person detailing the reactions to the end of World War II. It includes both handwritten diary entries and well as newspaper clippings cut out and glued into the diary. The cover includes a political cartoon entitled "New Light of Asia" and depicts firebombs falling on Tokyo.

Papers, circa 1933-1943 of Doris Ann McFarland of Reedville, Virginia and later Washington, D.C. and possibly Philadelphia, Pa. Included are a diary, 1933-1934, kept while Doris McFarland was a 4th and 5th grader in the Reedville School in Reedville, Virginia; a report card for the 1933/34 school year; a photograph, circa 1940s of McFarland in Uniform, greeting cards, postcards, concert programs, ticket stubs, church fliers and news clippings. Many of the concert programs and tickets (1940s) relate to Philadelphia and an undated postcard was sent to her to an address in Washington, D.C.

This collection includes material gathered by then William and Mary student Eleanor Harvey related to the christening of the SS William and Mary Victory on April 20, 1945. Photographs, news clippings, scrapbook, and the wooden chest holding the broken champagne bottle used in the launch are available. Miss Harvey was the sponsor at the launch and Edith Harwood was the maid of honor.

Included are a scrapbook, correspondence, photographs, clippings, postcards and fliers, as well as drafts of articles authored by her. Some of the papers relate to the American Fireside Club, of which Eleanor Fredricks was the organizer.

Papers, circa 1930s-1950s, of Eleanor H. Fredricks of Chicago, Illinois. Included are a scrapbook, correspondence, photographs, clippings, postcards and fliers, as well as drafts of articles authored by her. Some of the papers relate to the American Fireside Club, of which Eleanor Fredricks was the organizer. The American Fireside Club was a social club, whose members contributed antiques instead of dues, and who exhibited some of their items while also engaging in "recreation and handicraft" and at times put on entertainments to raise funds for charity. The collection also includes drafts of Fredricks' book "Adventures of Cain," which includes characters and stories from the Christian Bible.

The Ephemera Collection contains material primarily acquired for teaching. It includes material in various formats, most of which have been previously published. The collection is currently being processed and new items will be added on an ongoing basis. For this reason, the indicated date range is approximate at this point.

Papers, circa 1970s-1990s, of Evelyn Momsen Hailey (1922-2011) of Norfolk, Virginia. Hailey served as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1974 to 1981 and as a member of the State Senate from 1981 to 1982. She was active with women's rights organizations and environmental protection and an avid supporter of Equal Rights Amendment legislation. Her papers include correspondence, clippings, speeches, and printed material, campaign materials, and other materials related to her political career. Several bumper stickers are housed in the Manuscripts Artifact Collection. Four reel-to-reel audiotapes are housed in the Manuscripts Audiovisual Collection.
