The collection consists mainly of certificates presented to Amos R. Koontz, M.D., by the army, together with his medals in a frame, and membership certificates in organizations. Included is a competition for designs for National Military Dress (1809); and shoemaker's account books of Harden Keyser (1849-1861), one of which Mattie Keyser used as a scrapbook at a later period and in which she wrote autograph poems; a souvenir booklet of the Panama Pacific Exposition (1915); and genealogical information on the Koontz, Graves, Stocking, Guy, Snyder, Dolan, Brown and Bageant families.

This collection contains materials dated 1784-1934. It includes correspondence, legal papers, and accounts, chiefly 1830-1892, of Benjamin S. Ewell, professor at the U.S. Military Academy, Hampden-Sydney College, Washington and Lee College, and the College of William and Mary (which he served as acting president, 1848-1849, and president, 1854-1888). Letters from Ewell during the Civil War when he was assistant adjutant-general to Gen. Joseph E. Johnston are included as well. Among the correspondents are members of the Tyler, Ewell, Campbell, and Brown families of Virginia and Tennessee. The collection also contains the memorandum book on the Ewell family by Elizabeth S. Ewell.

This journal contains John P. Louderback's first-hand account of the First Battle of Manassas (or Bull Run) during the American Civil War. John Louderback served in the 10th Virginia Infantry, most likely Company I (Page Volunteers), although his company could not be verified. The 10th Virginia Infantry was part of the 4th Brigade of the Armies of the Shenandoah. This brigade participated towards the end of the First battle of Manassas (or Bull Run). The account is only five pages while the rest of the journal consists of birth and death dates for the Louderback and Holtz families of Page County, Virginia. Also included in the journal are local newspaper articles from Page County and Rockingham County, Virginia.

Correspondence spans her early childhood through her marriage to Henry Thurston Buxton and Frank Ditterick. Most letters concern family news. Includes commencement invitations, marriage invitations and clippings of marriage announcements and obituaries. The photograph album appears to cover the 1920's. Loose photographs appear to be members of her family and are undated. A small group of letters to her father, Malcom Miller, is included.
