Collection regarding Wadestown, West Virginia, including a large book of hand-written arithtmetic problems possibly owned by a "John Shriver" (1807; box 3), a book titled "Uncle John's Stories" (1863; box 1), seventeen score-books from the Wadestown Junior High School basketball team (1948-1965; boxes 1-2), correspondence and other material of the deGarmo family concerning cemetery lots, gas wells, taxes, and other subjects (1913-2005, undated; box 1), a notebook recording death dates of Wadestown residents (undated; box 1), and a notebook recording sales of lots in the Wadestown Cemetery (undated; box 1). Includes genealogy and Civil War records collected by Roy Bird Cook of Lewis County, West Virginia. Series 1 through 5 were compiled by Marcellus W. Zimmerman. They include correspondence, church records, academic records, genealogical records, research manuscripts, and clippings regarding primarily the genealogy and history of Lewisburg and Greenbrier County, and the life and career of Confederate Brigadier General Alexander W. Reynolds. Series 6 through 8 were collected by Roy Bird Cook. They include military records and clippings regarding West Virginia units, the Confederate 31st Virginia Infantry, and other Confederate units from Virginia; there are also business and miscellaneous records, including ledgers, clippings, research notes, etc. Series 9 includes oversized material from earlier series.

There are three record series including subject files (boxes 1-4), miscellaneous research files (boxes 4-5), and family histories (boxes 5-16). Subject files are arranged alphabetically and cover many topics ranging from early settlement, the formation of cities and counties, wars, etc. Miscellaneous research files regard the War of 1812 and the Civil War in connection with western Virginia, among other material. Family history files are arranged alphabetically by last name; they document mostly eighteenth-century settlers of what was once Augusta County, Virginia.
