A collection of 17 photographs, copies, and postcards related to Thomas Jonathan 'Stonewall' Jackson, his first wife Elinor Junkin and second wife Mary anna Morrison. The collection includes two original cartes de visite. One, a retouched image of Jackson in his pre - Civil War U.S. Army uniform without a photographer's imprint and the other, a view of his grave by Michael Miley, of Lexington, Va., c. 1870 - 75.The postcards date to the mid 20th century.

Commodore Charles H. B. Caldwell collection, 1853/1877

Journal written while Commodore Charles Henry Bromedge Caldwell was in command of the Naval Forces on the Pacific and South Atlantic Stations of the United States Navy. Entries detail the ship's journey throughout the year 1876- 1877 and document encounters with other vessels, dignitaries, and countries as well as the day to day operations of the ship and handling of situations as they arose. The staff journal was kept on behalf of the Commodore by H.N. Caldwell, Secretary in the United States Navy. Included with the journal is a small framed picture of Commodore Caldwell and a silver cup with his name inscribed upon it.

The Gregory Family papers follow the family of Virginia Governor John Munford Gregory and wife Amanda Wallace through three generations with letters dating from the 1820's to the 1920's. Most items are letters between family members and grant insight into the daily activities and concerns of the Gregory family. The collection also includes correspondence between members of the Gregory family and other acquaintances, including members of the John Tyler family. While most letters are of a personal nature, some also touch on the issues of politics, education, religion, and agriculture. The collection is rich in genealogical information on the Gregory family and related Croshaw, Graves, West, and White families, as well as history of the family's war involvement. In addition to letters, the collection includes newspaper articles, family documents, and two diaries kept by John M. Gregory's daughter, Mattie Galbraith, in the late 1870's. There are also seven cased images of members of the Gregory Family, including Amanda Wallace Gregory, Amanda's sister (Elizabeth Christie Powell), William Wallace Gregory, and Mary "Mollie" Gregory.

The collection contains papers of various members of the Grigsby family, particulary Hugh Blair Grigsby who was a historian and Chancellor of The College of William and Mary and his son, Hugh Carrington Grigsby who lived his entire life at the family farm, Edgehill, in Charlotte County, Virginia.

A carte de visite album belonging to the Houston family of Lexington, Virginia. It contains images of Judge Thomas Dix Houston, the Ervine, White, Wilson, Leach, Weir, Buchanan, Shumate, Culton, and Bear families of Rockbridge and Augusta Counties in Virginia. It also contains an image of Virginia Military Institute professor James Woods Massie. There are photographs by Lexington and Shenandoah Valley photographers Michael Miley, Adam H. Plecker, Hugh Morrison, and Benjamin Clinedinst, and George Teaford and Worthen of Winchester, Va. The album includes hand written geneaological notes about the Houston family.
