The Library of Virginia is one of the oldest agencies of Virginia government, founded in 1823 to preserve and provide access to the state's incomparable printed and manuscript holdings. Castlewood Grocery Company, Incorporated Receipt Book, 1914-1919

Receipt book, 1914-1919, of Castlewood Grocery Company, Incorporated that records chronologically transactions between the store and a customer named W. T. Kiser. Each receipt records the date of transaction, Kiser's name, name of his residence (Mew, Virginia), quantity of items sold, name of item, cost per item, amount owed for each item, and total amount owed. Items sold include vegetables, meat, flour, candy, spices, brooms, and schnapps.

Account book, 1888-1889, of C. Wallace and Company, a general store. They record the individual accounts of customers. Each account lists transactions in chronological order, items purchased, quantity of items purchased, amount owed, amount paid, and form of payment. Items sold include dry-goods, soda, candy, spices, food, cigars, nails, syrup, and clothing. Forms of payments include cash, labor, and barter of items such as eggs. The ledger includes an index that lists in alphabetical order the names of customers and the page numbers where their accounts can be found.
