Printed issued bond number 9434 authorized by the act of Congress of the Confederate States for the amount of $500 in order to fund the treasury of the Confederacy. The interest notes, of seven percent, were due semi-annually to the bond holder beginning Jan 1, 1865. At the center of the bond is a drawing of an encamped Confederate soldier and the bottom depicts a steamship and locomotive, with the company Archer & Dely, Richmond, Va.

The papers of Gordon M. Buck consist of professional legal papers and a small collection of personal material. The papers range mainly from the early 1920s to the 1940s, and contain records and briefs, memoranda, personal and business correspondence, court transcripts, and railroad trusteeship instruments. There are also several bound volumes of legal forms and documents, as well as case briefs and memoranda. Very thorough—if not entirely complete—records are included for the cases of Bogert v. Southern Pacific Co., Newark Plaster Co. v. Cross & Brown Co., the Pacific Oil Co. dissolution, and Young v. Southern Pacific Co.

This bond certificate dated August 1869 in the amount of $250 is made out to Madison H. Effinger of Rockbridge County, Virginia, for the endowment of Washington College. The certificate is signed by J. M. Leech, University Treasurer, and John W. Brockenbrough, University Rector.
