Record Group 7 contains the incomplete and unofficial records of the Arlington County, Virginia, public school system. The entire collection measures 20.85 linear feet, and ranges in date between 1909 and 2004. The bulk of the material is from the period 1946-1988. Materials include information on School Board candidates, architectural reports and site studies for school buildings, school personnel handbooks, salary and retirement information from the 1950s, reports of citizen advisory councils and task forces on instructional issues (1950s through 1970s) and many school publications including newsletters and clippings about Arlington schools, chiefly during the 1950s through the 1970s.

RG 307, the George Melvin Richardson Collection, is .63 linear feet and encompasses materials from 1951 to 2013, although the bulk of the materials date 1951-1975. Mr. Richardson was a great collector of newspaper clippings on the topics of Hoffman-Boston School and desegregation, which are included in this collection. In addition to some correspondence and papers from the Hoffman-Boston school there is a collection of photographs of the school and its sports activities. There are also collection materials on Arlington View in preparation for its neighborhood survey.

RG 70 is collected and generated by Dr. Barnard D. Joy of Arlington, Virginia, in the course of his years of involvement in education in Virginia. The collection measures approximately 11.5 linear feet and contains material dating from 1950 to 1976. Types of material include: minutes, correspondence, clippings, newsletters, published and unpublished reports, grant proposals, narrative and financial reports, and course outlines, lectures, and examinations.

RG 19 are papers collected and generated by Elizabeth Pfohl Campbell. The collection measures approximately seven linear feet and covers the period from 1945 through 1991, with the bulk of the material falling between 1947 and 1959.

Record Group 339 houses the personal papers of Thomas E. Derr, formerly of Arlington, Virginia. The record group measures approximately 1.5 linear feet and dates from 1951 through 1967, with the bulk from 1961 through 1967. Types of material include school publications, school and sports memorabilia, and clippings.

The files of the School Health Nurses of Arlington Public Schools cover the time period from the 1950s to 1990, but include some as early as 1934 and some from the 1940s. During that time, School Nurses were moved from the jurisdiction of the Department of Education to the Department of Human Resources, and then merged with Public Health Nurses. The collection measures 6.7 linear feet.

Record Group 9 houses the scattered records of the Citizen's Committee for School Improvement for the period from 1946-1954 and 1956-1969 and measures 1 linear foot. The collection houses the committee's constitution, by-laws, minutes, correspondence files, resolutions, membership lists, position statements, press releases, announcements, newsletters, radio scripts, photographs and clippings. The Committee's interests in the selection of School Board candidates, the school lunch program, the improvement of teacher salaries, local bond issues, and the establishment of public kindergartens are covered in this group.

Record Group 167 houses records of the Wakefield Alumni Association. The record group measures approximately 1.5 linear feet and dates from 1921 to 2003, with the bulk dating from 1953 to 1969. Types of material include minutes, correspondence, reports, directories, handbooks, programs, a scrapbook, clippings, and photographs. Over half the record group contains the records of the Wakefield Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), 1954-1969.
