This collection contains correspondence, publications, and other material kept by Carl R. Dolmetsch, a professor in the Department of English at the College of William and Mary. Included in the collection are publications, a drawing, and a poster related to author H.L. Mencken; correspondence concerning potential visiting lecturers to events in the Department of Engllish; and letters written to Carl R. Dolmetsch by persons who had contributed material to Smart Set magazine as well as letters received by Dolmetsch as chairmanship of the Committee on Arts and Lectures at the College of William and Mary. Prominent correspondents include Faith Baldwin, Jacques Barzun, S. N. Behrman, Rudolf Bing, Kenneth Burke, James Branch Cabell, Padraic Colum, Babette Deutsch, William Golding, H. L. Mencken, Upton Sinclair, C. P. Snow, Louis Untermeyer, Mark Van Doren, Colin Wilson and Edmund Wilson.

Papers of G. Glenwood Clark, professor of English who taught American Literature at the College of William and Mary. The collection iIncludes correspondence, 1921-1965, with former students, faculty and administration of the College, personal acquaintances, publishing companies, clubs and organizations as well as newspaper clippings, typescripts of books, articles and talks, lecture notes, scrapbooks and materials relating to his two sabbaticals in Brazil including photographs, letters, accounts and a diary.

Copies of letters written by Cabell at Richmond and Poynton Lodge, Ophelia, Va. and at St. Augustine, Florida to Rawlings concerning their literary work and also concerning the author, Ellen Glasgow. Includes one letter from Cabell to Frank Daniel and one letter to Rawlings from Margaret Waller Freeman Cabell. Originals in Majorie Kinnan Rawlings Collection, Rare Book Section, University of Florida Libraries.

Letters, 1925-1934, to and from James Branch Cabell of "Dumbarton Grange," Dumbarton, Va. and Richmond, Va. and while at "Cayford Cottage," Mountain Lake, Va. Correspondents include Sydney S. Alberts (concerning Beyond Life and The White Robe), R. H. Barlow (concerning Special Delivery, Smirt, and the gift of two pewter animals), [?] Hills (concerning the negative effect of newspaper experience on writing), Allen Lucy (concerning the production by the Palo Alto Community Players of The Jewel Merchants and his recommendation that Simon's Hour not be dramatized) and Marguerite M. Mulligan (concerning the forged play, Poor Jack). There is also a printed copy of the forged play in the collection.

Galley proofs of the first edition of James Branch Cabell's "Chivalry", annotated by Cabell for the second edition (1921).

Includes manuscripts of poetry written by Julia Selden Grandy who lived in Norfolk, Va. and Baltimore, Md. as well as short stories by Grandy; translations by Grandy of French poetry written by Stephen Mallarme (1842-1898); diaries kept while in school in New York and on trips to Paris and London; published books by Grandy; and scrapbooks. Includes a biography, poem and her obituary.

Collection consists of two letters both of which concern the use of true events in fictional writing. The first, 2 February 1951, is from James Branch Cabell to [?] Cope; and the second, 27 October 1951, is from Mary Raymond Shipman Andrews to Mrs. [Reginald ?] Kenney.

The Merritt Ierley papers record his literary and musical career. Ierley is an alumnus of the College of William and Mary. His works include The Year that Tried Men's Souls, With Charity for All, Traveling the National Road, and Wondrous Contrivances.
