Scope and content:

Includes statements by Harold Shill, Nancy M. Cline, Margaret Chisholm, R. William Summers, Christie D. Vernon, Katherine F. Mawdsley, Eileen D. Cooke, Beverly P. Lynch, and the American Library Association before various congressional committees and subcommittees, including the Subcommittee on Science, Technology and Space, the Subcommittee on Postsecondary Education, and the Subcommittee on Government Information, Justice, and Agriculture, among others. The topics of the testimony include NTIS, the nomination of James H. Billington as Librarian of Congress, the Computer Security Act of 1987, library appropriation bills, reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, and other legislation related to libraries and government information. Also includes correspondence between Shill and various politicians regarding his testimony, which addressed the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.
