"The Tavern Tap-Room, Laughter, Smoke and Friends" Printing Block, 1933

Printing block with a metal plate. The metal plate features a relief of the interior of an eighteenth century tavern room with men in eighteenth century clothes standing in the room. The men are talking, joking, and smoking with one another in the room. "149" is written and underlined in pencil on the right edge of the printing block. This printing block was made for a print in the 1933 Colonial Echo by Charles W. Smith. The printing block is 5.5in. (width) x 7.125in. (length). The printing block is in fair condition. There are three splits going along the length of the printing block on the back. There is also approx. 4.5in. of chipping on the back left side of the printing block. The back of the printing block has a large smattering of green stains and a 0.75in. white tissue like substance. The bottom edge has a 0.75in. crack and a 0.5in. crack parallel to the splits on the back; along with a 0.75in. split that looks as if it has been glued before. The top edge has a 0.5in. crack and three 0.75 splits running parallel to the splits across the back. Gift of Nancy Peters. UA 2013.209.03
