Scope and Contents Is ill and "confined to the house"; predicts that "many men" will seek Wise's influence in Virginia to help nominate Buchanan; reminds him to be careful of what he says and does especially in relation to M. Buchanan; has heard compliments of Wise's Richmond Ratificiation speech; Judge Douglas will be caught most likely in the "Squatter Sovereignty" trap; comments that the issue of slavery in the new territories was "ignored in Cincinnati," and that if it ever arises "there will be the devil to pay in the Democratic party"; claims that it is not a matter of principle, but really a matter of politics. 4 pp. ALS.
