In this interview, American Studies and Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies (GSWS) Professor Leisa Meyer narrates their experience living in Williamsburg, Virginia, and the surrounding areas as it pertains to the Queer community. Professor Meyer begins with detailing their life as a Professor at William and Mary, how much they care for their students and reform, and how they came to be a Professor and long-time resident of Williamsburg. They explain how the surrounding areas of Williamsburg have a more lively Queer presence, and details some of the history behind the notorious Gay/Lesbian bars in these more urbanized towns. Throughout the interview, there are discussions of what qualifies as a Queer space, what Williamsburg and the Queer community in the town can do to advance their presence in the Colonial city, and ends with concluding remarks about Williamsburg as a whole.
