Saw an advertisement in the Richmond Enquirer that on July 3 an election will be held to fill the post of professor of ancient languages [at William and Mary] vacated by Mr. Dabney Browne. William should start preparing as a candidate. Will write his friends among the Visitors, including Dr. Peachy, Ed. Ruffin, J.C. Pryor, and Col. Blow. Mentions other Visitors, and College Officials. Feels William should mention the subject to Mr. Rogers and Dr. Harrison. The church is experiencing a great revival, brought about by the preaching of Mr. Philip Slaughter of Culpeper.
