Stone Mountain Half Dollars, 1925

Scope and content:

2-Silver Stone Mountain half dollars. Coins were issued as a commemorative of a project in Georgia to carve Confederate leaders into Stone Mountain. The project, due to a number of problems that arose, wasn't completed into more than fifty years after its undertaking. The coin's obverse has the figures of Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee on horseback with "In God We Trust", "Cold Mountain", and the date "1925" inscribed in it along with the 13 stars of the Confederacy. The reverse shows an image of a Bald Eagle sitting upon a cliff and is inscribed with "Memorial to the Valor of the Soldier of the South" and "United States of America - Half Dollar - E. Pluribus Unum - Liberty" around the rim. Coins measure 32mm (length) x 3mm (thickness). Good conditon with all insciptions and figures visible but both have a grime buildup. Gift of Alex B. Andrews.
