Scope and content:

7-copies of The Flat Hat. Volume 9, issue numbers 8 (2 copies) (1919) and 10 (1920) are included as well as Volume 10, issue numbers 17 (1921), 23 (2 copies) (1921), and 24 (1921). These issues carry commercial ads, make puns and jokes, and comment on William and Mary Sports (In the Wigwam), female attendance at the College, and social issues (World War I War Term Insurance, Negro and Immigrant Labor, Resolutions against possible government charges of Faculty disloyalty to the Nation, etc.). The Flat Hat issues measure approximately 15in. (length) x 10 in. (width) and are in poor condition with stains, holes, rips and creases. Gift of Randolph Macon College-Ashland via Susan Riggs.
