Opening and closing narration by Cicely Tyson. A symposium held in the yard at "Rowan Oak" with Louis D. Rubin, Jr.( University of North Carolina), Thomas Daniel Young( Vanderbilt), Blyden Jackson( University of North Carolina), Shelby Foote, and Lewis P. Sumpson( Louisiana State University) engaged in a critical discussion of many of William Faulkner's stories and novels. There are exterior and interior shots of "Rowan Oak," including the formal gardens, the study, library, William Faulkner's bedroom (with outline of The Fableon the walls), portrait of William Faulknerin fox-hunting costume, sculpture of William Faulknerhead, portrait of Colonel W. C. Faulkner, etc. There are also shots of Colonel W. C. Faulkner's statue in the cemetary at Ripley, Mississippiof William Faulkner's grave and tombstone, and of houses, offices, the courthouse and Confederate monument in Oxford, Mississippi.
