Physical description:
Group of visitors posed in front of the gardener's house with Mount Vernon resident superintendent James (John Henry) Hollingsworth at far left. While the visitors are unidentified, the photograph descends through the Lee family so likely there are family members present. A dog poses with the visitors and a dog house is seen in the distance along the north lane. Photograph taken by 'official photographer to the Association' Luke C. Dillon. Mounted on cardboard with printed text: Home of Washington Mount Vernon, Va. Luke C. Dillon, Photographer, Washington D. C., Office, 935 Penn. Avenue, Pullman's Gallery. Reverse of the photograph indicates the picture was taken "Aug 13 - 3 (group 3)." At this time, the gardener's house was used as the post office as well as the site to purchase canes as seen by the sign (partially blocked) mounted on the building. Also seen are advertisements for Dillon's photographic services.
