Gardner's stamp and a handwritten note appear on the reverse, 'Jim Mitchell formerly servant of the Washington famiy, 83 years old. April 15th 1870, lived at Mt. Vernon since 14 years age.' Photographer's stamp: Gardner, No. 511 7th St., Washington, D.C.
