Black and white photograph of a Civil War veteran at Mount Vernon. Members of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) visited Mount Vernon while on their way home from a reunion in Gettysburg. The veteran wears numerous ribbons and medals. Founded in 1866, the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union Army (United States Army), Union Navy (U.S. Navy), Marines and the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service who served in the American Civil War. Photograph misdated as 1937.
