- Full page advertisement (page 129) for Hartz, Schaffer Marx advertising men's suits removed from 'The American Magazine.' The ad is illustrated with two men in suits in the foreground along with other visitors in front of Washington's tomb at Mount Vernon, copyright 1910 by Hartz, Schaffer Marx. In the background is a partial view of an African American guard. The guard is circled in red pencil with an arrow pointing to an accompanying note. The note read, 'Will says Chas. Simms or Eaton Hammond, May-1910.' Note: Charles Simms doesn't become a tomb guard until 1913 and E. Hammond passes away in 1906. In 1910, Thomas Braxton served as the tomb guard. There is no evidence that any particular guard is represented in the illustration but if so, it would likely be Braxton.
