Bushrod writes to General Jan Pieter van Suchtelen, the Russian Minister at Stockholm, in response to his request for "manuscript specimens of the handwriting of some of our most illustrious citizens." Bushrod says he is sending manuscripts written by John Marshall, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, John Jay, and George Washington.
