Scope and content:

Copy of the two known surviving recieved letters from George Washington to Martha Washington. The letter dated 1775 June 18, George Washington writes to Martha Washington regarding the "American cause" and his need to go "to Boston to take upon [him] the command". He mentions his possible death and will. The letter dated 1775 June 23, the original of which is located within the George Washington Presidential Library's collections, George Washington writes to Martha Washington as he departs Philadelphia for Boston and he does not know when he will be able to write again. He hopes to have a "happy meeting with you [Martha] sometime in the fall".
