Randolph, a Quaker, writes his mother that he visited Mount Vernon "and was much disappointed to find the natural beauties of the place such that all the neglect of owners and trespassing of strangers for half a century have only been able to impair but not ... destroy them." Comments on huts of negros. Autograph letter signed, integral cover, postmark.
