Hammond [husband of Samuel's deceased sister Mildred] wants him to buy his share of Kanawha lands left him by George Washington's legacy -- he can't afford it -- asks for an opinion on how much he should lease or buy it for -- can Hammond have other compensation in place of this land? -- Hammond embarrassed for money now -- he gave draft on executors and it was refused. Autograph letter signed, integral cover. Name on original manuscript appears as "Saml. Washington."
