Washington agrees to high wages demanded by Mrs. Forbes, because of desperate need of a housekeeper at Mt. Vernon--asks Bushrod to make further enquiries concerning Mrs. Forbes and her habits, listing questions of interest--she will not eat at same table with the family, "for if this was once admitted no line satisfactory to either party, perhaps, could be drawn thereafter"--he wants Bushrod to ask Mrs. Forbes about hiring or buying a good Negro cook.
