A large majority of the Regent's Files contain correspondence to and from the Regent, sometimes organized by subject. Files for more recent Regents often contain event programs or invitations, speeches, clippings, reports, printed material, and other miscellaneous items. Letters to or from VIP guests or dignitaries have been noted when possible.

According to the policies of the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, certain records in the archives may only be available for research 30 years after creation or file date.
