Arete Johnson, a lady manager for the MVLA, writes to another woman entreating her to help with the cause of raising money for the purchase of Mount Vernon. She explains that she has been assigned this duty as the "Presiding Lady" of Franklin County but needs the help of others. Johnson places emphasis on collecting money from other women and girls.
