Letters between John Augustine Washington III and John H. Gilmer published in the Richmond Whig newspaper, 1854. Gilmer informs Washington that the ladies of Richmond and Manchester have appointed him to correspond with the proprietor of Mount Vernon in order to ascertain what price would be agreeable to convey Mount Vernon to the MVLA. He encloses the printed proceedings, constitution, and address of the MVLA (not included here). Gilmer hopes that Washington's reply will be satisfactory to all concerned.
