D. Alexis Hart commissioned with the United States Navy in May 1993. From August 1993 to April 1994 she was a student at the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, Georgia. From May 1994 to June 1997, she served as Division Officer on board the USS Essex (LHD 2), and was first woman assigned to an amphibious ship. From July 1997 to June 1999, Hart served as Instructor at the Navy Supply Corps School.
