Biographical / historical:

Philip O. Stewart enlisted in the United States Army in 1941. His first assignments were stateside with an anti-aircraft artillery battalion. In 1944 he shipped overseas and joined the First Division at the Roer River (Germany) crossing. Stewart fought with the unit in Germany until he was seriously wounded near the end of World War II.
