Robert Fred Dexter was born in Massachusetts in 1925. He joined the United States Army in January 1944 and served in World War II, Korea, Central and South America, and in Vietnam. Following the end of his Army service in 1971, he began a career with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
