Joseph O. Dazzo joined the United States Army in 1940 and was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division as a combat medic. He served in North Africa and Sicily, and took part in the Normandy invasion. His unit subsequently fought through France, Belgium, Germany, and Czechoslovakia. Dazzo was discharged in September 1945.
