Contains a list of the officers of the Virginia State Garrison Regiment. The list provides the name of the officer, first rank, promotions, present rank, date of present commission, and present state. The list also includes a state of the regiment which includes a brief history of the regiment and the current strength of the regiment. There are two copies of the document. The list is signed by George Muter, late colonel of the State Garrison Regiment.(Accession 44267)
The Virginia State Garrison Regiment commanded by Col. George Muter was organized on 18 June 1778 for three years' service. The regiment consisted of eight companies to defend Virginia tidewater harbors including Williamsburg, Yorktown, Portsmouth, and Hampton. The regiment marched under Lt. Col. Charles Porterfield to South Carolina and was defeated at the Battle of Camden on 16 August 1781. The regiment was incorporated with Dabney's Legion in January 1782.
