Website of the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA). The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Alexandria, Virginia which serves as a community resource and operates the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter. Founded in 1946, the mission of the AWLA is to "inspire compassion for all living things, to provide shelter to animals in need, and to promote adoptions, animal welfare and responsible pet ownership in our community."
