The archaeology department staff transferred to the Fairfax County Park Authority; the historic buildings survey, architectural review, and historic district zoning staff were reassigned within the Office of Comprehensive Planning; and the historical research and publications program was completely eliminated. The changes took effect on July 1, 1996.
