He attended the College of William \u0026 Mary and served in the 34th Virginia Infantry Regiment, Confederate States Army. Stubbs then attended the University of Virginia. He was professor of mathematics at the University of Arkansas in Batesville and was professor of math at the College of William \u0026 Mary from 1888 until his death in 1915.
