Johnson, Jr.  (1942 - ) of Great Falls, Virginia. Originally from Alexandria, Virginia, Johnson owned a dental practice in McLean, Virginia.  In the late 1970's, Johnson began collecting 19th century chairs made in Loudoun County, generally called \"Waterford chairs\".  Unable to find information about those who originally manufactured and sold the chairs, Johnson began to research them.  In 2003 he published Nineteenth Century Loudoun County, Virginia Chair Manufacturing, a book featuring information about Loudoun County chair, clock, and cabinetmakers between 1765 and 1900.   Throughout and after his research for this book, Johnson amassed a large collection of newspaper advertisements and other information about 19th century merchants and tradespeople in Loudoun County. Janney (1842-1911), local jeweler and retired Civil War soldier. Janney had collected about four shelves of books that he would loan out to Loudoun County citizens for a few cents apiece. In 1899, the library was taken over by Lillian Davis (n.d.), Virginia B. Hirst (1857-n.d.), Linda Pancoast (ca. 1878-n.d.), and Mary Virginia Smith (n.d.), who organized a collection of 407 books in the general merchandise store of Mr. W. P. Pancoast (1852-1940). On 23 May 1900, however, a fire began in Pancoast's store which spread quickly and destroyed the entire central portion of Purcellville. It is unclear how much, if any, of the collection was saved from the flames.  After the fire, the library moved around to various locations, including a dentist's office.","The Blue Ridge Library was run by a board of executive officers, and it hosted fund-raising events such as plays, concerts, and other entertainment. In order to encourage the inhabitants of Purcellville to make use of the library, it also held a weekly story time for children. The library was privately funded during this time, and in 1934 a committee was selected to appeal to the town council for public funds to pay the library's rent.","Records suggest that the Blue Ridge Library closed down at some point between 1934 and 1936 due to the Depression. Hall is noted for his career as a lawyer, state legislator, orator, and public figure. Graduating from Washington and Lee School of Law in Lexington, VA in 1915, Hall served in the United States Navy during World War I.  In 1918, at the age of 24, he was elected to the Virginia General Assembly and served on the Assembly until 1935. He served as Chairman of the Virginia Conservation Commission from 1935-1939, and authored or sponsored important and influential legislation.","Wilbur Hall also had a legendary career as a lawyer; he was called a \"lawyer's lawyer\" and \"the best prepared lawyer before the bar of any court in Virginia.\" Hall contributed to the legal profession in numerous ways, being widely cited in case law and also serving as a supporter of Washington and Lee University's law program.
