He was Director of the Office of Mental Health Services, and supervised various administrative, policy, and operational functions of Virginia's public system of behavioral health services for adults.  Throughout his tenure at DBHDS, Martinez focused on developing community services and supports for people with serious mental illness and substance abuse disorders and their families, and on shaping and implementing a person-centered, recovery-oriented behavioral health system for Virginia.  Martinez served as an Advisor to the Supreme Court of Virginia's Commission on Mental Health Law Reform (2006-2011), and has been a leader in Virginia's efforts to improve the state's involuntary treatment statutes and strengthen the safety net of behavioral health crisis response services in the Commonwealth.  Martinez is a graduate of the Virginia Executive Institute, and holds a BA from Washington and Lee University, and a MEd from the University of Virginia.","The James M. She served as a Professor of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise from 1976 to 1996. Johnson was later appointed as the Dean of the College of Human Resources and Education from 1996 to her retirement in 2002. She earned her B.S. in Home Economics Education from Purdue University (1963) and taught high school home economics before attending graduate school at Cornell University. She would then earn her masters (1970) and doctoral degrees in Foods and Nutrition (1972). Dr. Johnson has been an active member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences since 1963. She is currently involved with the Nutrition, Health, and Food Management Division's Ethics Committee, and she is recognized as an AAFCS Leader. Janet Johnson contributed her leadership, scholarship, and research to Virginia Tech as a faculty member in the Department of Human Nutrition and Foods and as a Cooperative Extension specialist. Her research and scholarship focuses on human nutrition and food quality issues, which can be found in over 50 journal articles, book chapters, abstracts, and exclusive presentations. Janet Johnson also earned the following professional recognition awards: Purdue University Distinguished Alumni Award, the Phi Delta Kappa Outstanding Educator Award, the Alfred Payne Omicron Delta Kappa Student Service Award; the Excellence in Teaching Award from Virginia Tech, the Borden Award for Outstanding Foods Research, the AAFCS Distinguished Service Award, and the \"Hall of Fame Award\" from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in 2015.
